Easily one of my favorite films of all time (completely disregarding genre) this movie combines action, drama, and horror to pull you into the plot.
Shock factor is huge in this film, so brace yourself for a few jump scares. Likely you have already heard about the ending but don’t avoid this watching this movie simply because you think the novelty value has been ruined. Speaking from experience, I knew the ending already but I was absolutely astonished by how this movie made it not even matter.read more
Not only do I love scary movies… I also enjoy reading horror genre novels in my spare time as well. So, I’ve obviously read Stephen King’s books, and a lot of them.
The Shining’s film adaptation was directed by Stanley Kubrick, famous for other great creations like Full Metal Jacket, Clockwork Orange, and 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Jack Nicholson stars as Jack Torrance, the new caretaker of an empty hotel through the Winter. However, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” So, naturally, he goes absolutely insane. It makes for an exciting film, more of an adrenaline rush and eerie type movie than pure horror.read more
It is quite likely you have heard of this company, or at least seen one of their films in recent years. Blumhouse Productions has created some of my all time favorite horror movies, including: the Insidious series, Sinister and Oculus. You may have heard of the Paranormal Activity series done by BP which used hand-held camera techniques similar to The Blair Witch Project. They also released Ouija recently as well as Jessabelle, a lesser known film that I recommend to everyone.
They will be coming out with Sinister 2 and Insidious: Chapter 3 soon. Get hyped!read more
At the time, The Ring was popularly labeled as one of the scariest movies that had ever been released. I remember my friends and family members would not stop talking about how terrifying it was. I did not actually watch it until a few years later when my interest in films really began, and I had no idea what I was missing.
This movie is what nightmares are made of, folks. If you are easily scared, do not expect to get a good night’s sleep after watching The Ring. Characters stumble across and watch a VHS tape with chilling images 7 days prior to their brutal death. As if we needed one more reason to not use VHS anymore.read more
I have been running out of modern movies to watch, since the past few years of my life have consisted of seeing almost strictly horror genre films. As a result, I will be focusing on movies from earlier decades, like the sixties, seventies and eighties. Today, we will discuss The Amityville Horror (1979) which most film fanatics have seen or at least heard of.
Directed by Stuart Rosenberg, it features a man and woman who move into a new house that surprisingly cheap (shocker) due to the previous owners being murdered inside. Naturally, the house is haunted. It is actually based on factual murders. Ed and Lorraine Warren, the ghost hunters featured in “The Conjuring” ended up investigating the house following accusations of paranormal activity in the house.read more
